How many sentence types are there in English grammar?

There are 4 kinds of sentences.

  1. Declarative sentences declare something – they make a statement. E.g. I enjoy reading.
  2. Imperative sentences give commands. E.g. Stand still.
  3. Interrogative sentences pose questions. E.g. How are you?
  4. Exclamatory sentences express emotion or excitement. E.g. That’s great!

The children were excited about visiting the factory.
