A verb can best be described as a word which shows action or a state of being. Just like every sentence must have a noun, it must also have a verb. Verbs allow nouns to be (exist) or do things to other nouns.
A verb will change its form depending on who is speaking. Changing the form of a word to suit the speaker is known as conjugation.
The subject of a word can be one of 6 forms. Let’s look at them with the example of the word ‘to dance.’
|I dance||We dance|
|You dance||You (all) dance|
|He/she dances||They dance|
All subjects will fit in one of these categories. For example, a hippopotamus will be he or she, and if there are many hippopotamuses they will fit into the corresponding plural category- they.
