Alternate Ways to Spread Holiday Cheer

Alternate Ways to Spread Holiday Cheer

The holidays are around the corner and there are many ways to spread the cheer. There are many ways to do this without involving buying presents or spending large sums of money. The holiday season is about giving to those who are less fortunate than you, spreading love and cheer and spending time with those you love.

Take this season as an opportunity to undertake a spring cleaning of your home and make donation boxes. There are so many centres for donation throughout the city and it is easy to find the centre that fits your donation needs. Make an afternoon of it and take your entire family with you. This is a chance for you to teach your family the importance of giving. Many orphanages and old age homes are grossly understaffed during the holiday season and are often in dire need of amenities. Collect, buy and donate as much as you can afford to and make sure your family understands the importance of doing so.

Use the holiday season to reach out to those you care about, including those you have lost touch with. A simple card, call or message goes a long way in cheering up those who are feeling low this holiday season. The holidays aren’t easy for everyone, especially those not surrounded by family and friends. If you know people who are feeling alone or low during this season, open your home and heart to them. Inviting an extra guest home doesn’t cost much and a little time with family goes a long way in lifting their spirits.

Christmas cheer is not limited to the home, it extends to your work place as well. Spend a little time with your co-workers, there isn’t much that goes into buying a cup of coffee or spending your lunch break having a meaningful conversation. Learn more about those around you, especially if their traditions and holiday rituals are different from your own. Most religions have different days of remembrances in the month of December and express and interest in other beliefs and religious practices. It will make your co-workers feel happy and accepted to learn that others are taking an interest in their beliefs as well.

Christmas is a time to share love and good feelings. Your family should learn to associate this time with sharing your good fortune, love and cheer.
