Fun Activities During Social Distancing

The great part about living in today's day and age is the fact that so much amazing content is available online. The downside to this, however, is that children are spending increasing amounts of time on screens. Be it laptops, tablets, televisions or phones – children are glued to screens on the weekend. Given the fact that all schools are presently on holiday due to the Corona Virus outbreak, children are home and more than ever, highly dependent on screens. Make a rule at home (and enforce it completely!) that there is limited screen time. Make it for a few hours each morning or evening, to prevent your child from becoming lethargic and screen dependent.

Consider yourself extremely lucky at this time, if you have a garden attached to your home. This ensures that your children spend some time outside each day, without leaving the gate of your home. Make sure you also spend time in the garden with them. Sunshine does a world of good for both adults and children and makes sure everyone steps away from the screen at some point.

If you are homebound and do not have a garden, fear not! There are still many things your children can do at home. Pull out all the art material being hoarded for class projects and charts.Take up an art activity outside your comfort zone – for example, painting with watercolours or creating a collage. It will be a new experience for both you and your child. Make sure to line the floor with newspaper to avoid accidents and get painting! This will keep the creative juices flowing and also allow you to spend some quality time with your children.

Ever take up an instrument with your child but never follow through with it? You have all the time on your hands now to give it a go! There are endless classes being held online at the moment for budding artists and musicians. Why not take this time to take up one of them? Break up yours and your child's day into sections, making sure you get a little bit of screen time, relaxation time and also creative time. Move around, even if it is within the house and stretch out your aching bones and muscles. Join an online yoga class in the morning (along with the family) and feel energised first thing in the morning!
