‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ picks up over a year after the first film. The unlikely group of friends, who banded together to battle the mysterious world of Jumanji, have remained close. Having moved to different cities for college, they are all back together to celebrate Christmas.
Spencer, played by actor Alex Wolff, isn’t as happy with his college life as the rest of his friends and longs to return to Jumanji – a world where he felt purposeful. This time around, the additional cast includes the hilarious Eddie (Danny DeVito), playing Spencer’s grandfather and his friend Milo (played by Danny Glover).
Spencer retrieves a part of the original Jumanji game (which was originally believed was destroyed entirely) and re-enters the world. He is followed by his friends, grandfather, and Milo. There was much cynicism towards this film as it was uncertain whether the premise would be funny the second time around. Teenagers being played by adults can only be so funny.
The film cannot be seen as a ‘next level’. Rather, a humorous and fun-loving film in itself. It manages to make the audience laugh, especially with the added benefit of Danny DeVito. The film is fairly predictable but is good clean entertainment for the family.
