Knights and Bikes – Game Review

Knights and Bikes – Game Review

Imagine a hand-drawn video game, echoing the imagination of two children who are off on an adventure. Reminiscent of 'The Goonies', 'Knights and Bikes' follows the adventures of two friends as they explore a British island in the search of treasure. 'The Goonies' was one such film, following a rag-tag group of friends as they embarked on the search for a lost treasure. 'Knights and Bikes' seems to echo that sentiment, creating an island space full of mystery, adventure and danger.

The violence in the game is softened by the animation and hand-drawn art style of the game. The choice of colour palettes – muted and subdued, are a stark contrast to the fervour of the game and the often violent interactions the protagonists have with their surroundings.

As they explore the island on their bicycles, they have to dodge fantasy creatures who are throwing different objects at them or trying to hurt them by stomping on them. They can also upgrade their bicycles through a system of barter and by achieving different goals.

‘Knights and Bikes’ is a wonderfully illustrated and animated indie video game which can be played by 1 or 2 players in the co-op mode. For children looking to explore games outside the mainstream, this game is highly recommended.
