Curious little Gul is startled early one morning when her radio begins to play the sounds of different birds chirping. Keen to know more, Gul follows the clues, only to end up in a lush Indian jungle.
Written in rhymes, this beautifully illustrated book exposes its readers to the wonderful orchestra of bird calls heard in every forest. Each page shows a new bird, with bold lettering of how their call would sound. The pages are lush with colour and a painterly art style and the book is wonderful to both read and to look at.
The end of the story also features a list of birds which have been introduced in the book, giving readers a chance to go online and hear the calls for themselves. Or better yet, step out into nature and hear (and hopefully see) the birds in their natural habitat.
The author has kindly listed websites along with the birds, where readers can go listen to the bird calls. A richly illustrated and thoughtfully produced book, when read out loud, could be great fun for parent and child. This book asks to be held and read with all the gusto, imagination and creativity one can muster up!
