The Path of Motus – Game Review

The Path of Motus – Game Review

‘The Path of Motus’ is a game that weaves together storytelling and gameplay in a seamless and well thought out manner. The brainchild of artist and animator Michael Hicks, the game touches upon issues of bullying and victimization, without directly addressing them.

Set in a mysterious forest, the game centres around a village of goblins. For centuries they have been unable to leave the village, returning defeated and exhausted each time they attempt to. The game follows the life of a goblin named Motus, who gradually grows older through the course of the game.

His aim is to build a series of bridges in and around the village, with some leading out of the village as well. His plans are thwarted at each step by bullies, who threaten him with their words. Players have to decide how to react to these bullies and various options are presented to them. There are many aspects to the game; from building to tackling and responding to enemies and bullies.

10% of all the profits from sales of the game are given to The Cybersmile Foundation – which helps victims of bullying through support offering helplines. The theme of tackling bullies run through the game; teaching children how to handle bullying through gameplay.
