Winter Activities – Picnic

The weather is beautiful at the moment, early mornings are still cold but afternoons welcome a little winter sunshine. Before it becomes too hot, why not take this time to spend a little quality time with your children? Even though winter holidays are long over, you still have the option of taking your children out during the weekend. A few, well planned out activities can go a long way in getting some quality time with your children.

Since the weather is perfect for a winter-y picnic, why not do just that? Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure a hassle free outing -

  1. Plan in advance. There’s no point waking up the morning of, to start prepping in a panicky fashion. That which can be done before, do it. This could include making the filling for sandwiches, packing activities and pulling out the dusty picnic mat which hasn’t been used all winter.
  2. Pack enough activities. I know this goes without saying – but children have short attention and enthusiasm spans. Carry more activities than you feel you will need. It’s safer to have more, rather than less! Take advantage of the gorgeous weather, pack a football or all the paraphernalia needed to fly kites. Before it gets too hot to step into, let alone look at the sun, fly that kite!
  3. Pack food smartly. We live in a world being overrun by single use plastic – don’t be a part of that. Make your own life easier by skipping plastic plates, forks and spoons ; which will later make their way to a dustbin. Instead, carry ample sanitiser and lots of finger foods! The easiest is always lots of fruit and sandwiches – easy to pack and carry. As always, skip unhealthy junk food and sugary drinks. Fresh juice and lots of water is always the smartest way to go. If your children feel endlessly snacky, there’s always the option of hummus or a fresh dip with lots of raw vegetable dippers.

Take advantage of the weather before the sweltering heat kicks in and get in some time with your family too!
