The Girl Who Chose - Book Review

The Girl Who Chose – Book Review

Do you want to know more about Sita? Who she was and how she made the five choices of her life? When did she follow the rules and when did she choose to break them? In the Adbhuta Ramayana, Sita is a form of the goddess Kali who can defeat demons more powerful than Ravana. The book, 'The Girl Who Chose' by Devdutt Patnaik, shows us how Sita is different from Ram and Ravana, by reminding the reader of the choices she made in her life and how she accepted the consequences of those choices with grace. Looking at Sita's life from a different perspective, the book can be called a summary of Sita Charitam (story of Sita). Patnaik has reimagined the Ramayana through his book and allows the reader to rethink the way in which Sita has been portrayed in traditional tellings.
