Bridal Objects

Creative Writing | 9-11 yrs | Learning Pod

They say that when a bride gets married in the western Christian tradition she should have on her:
something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue

Write a story about a bride on her search for these items. Take a few days to complete this exercise. Keep these categories in mind when you go about your daily routine and if you see an object that would fit into one of these categories, grab a pen and paper and jot down as much description as you can about it.

Begin writing the story only once you’re done with the entire list. Incorporate the information you’ve gathered during your search and imagine what relation your character has to these objects. Did someone give them to her as a present? Was it a family heirloom? Is it a memento from her first date with the man she’s about to marry? Maybe you can begin your story on the day of the wedding as she gazes upon these objects and thinks back in time about how she came to have all of them.
