Medal Tally : India
India won 11 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 36 bronze medals at the 2014 Asian Games. It finished eighth, with a final medal tally of 57.
India had done better in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. China’s presence in the Asian Games is a big factor in the change in results.
Mary Kom
Mary Kom won a historic gold medal, her first ever in women’s boxing, flyweight class, at the Asian Games.
Sarita Devi
In contrast, Sarita Devi lost out on a place in the women’s boxing, lightweight class, final due to poor judging. She refused to accept the bronze but apologised later and took the medal.
Jitu Rai
World no.5 Jitu Rai was the first off the mark when he won the gold in the 50 m pistol event in men’s shooting.
Indian Hockey Team
The Indian hockey team created history by winning an Asian Games gold medal after sixteen years. They won 4-2 in the penalty shootout against Pakistan. This win directly catapaults them in the Rio Olympics without having to play the qualifiers.
Yogeshwar Dutt
Yogeshwar Dutt’s gold medal win in wrestling was the first for India in 28 years at the Asian Games, in that category.
India National Kabaddi Team
The Indian men and women playing kabaddi both defeated Iran to win their gold medals.
Manju Bala
Manju Bala got a silver medal in hammer throw, after the gold medalist was tested positive for taking drugs.
Abhishek Verma
The young Indian archer Abhishek Verma, who had received a 2014 Arjuna award, won a gold medal here in the team event.
4 × 400 Metres Relay
In the 4*400 m relay race, Priyanka Pawar, Mandeep Kaur, Tintu Luka and MR Poovamma won the gold medal. This was one of the four golds we got in athletics.
Seema Punia and Sania Mirza
Seema Punia won the gold at the women’s discus throw. Sania Mirza and her companion won gold at the women’s mixed doubles in tennis.
