Australian Thorny Devil Lizard
I hate creepy crawlies! And yet here I am, posing in Australia with a thorny dragon! That’s right! I am holding a dragon! The sole species of genus Moloch, the Thorny Dragon is also called the mountain devil, or the thorny lizard. It can grow up to 8 inches in length, and can live for up to 20 years.
A thorny dragon’s spikes are incredibly sharp, and make it one of the least attacked animals in the desert food-chain system. These spikes also help it absorb water from surroundings and then ingest it. I feel safer in its company knowing that it only eats ants, specifically the black ones. It also has a “false head” on its upper back, which it presents to predators that dare to trifle with it. It does so by rolling up into a tight ball in self defense. It also changes color depending on the temperature outside. All that’s missing is the fire breathing!
Super Cool Right??
