A cartographer is someone who creates maps. Walk around your neighbourhood with a pencil and paper. Take notes of the roads within a small radius around your house. Draw out these roads and mark the different buildings and open spaces along these roads. Don’t concern yourself with how neat this drawing is or the proportions of your roads, just gather as much information as you can.
When you get back home, on a blank piece piece of paper redraw your map. Begin by drawing out the roads. Then mark the different buildings and open spaces. You can also mark restaurants and shops. There are many different types of maps and when a family member comes to visit you, you can make a photocopy of your handmade map of your neighbourhood and present it to them as a guide to where you live.
