Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse Partners Statue
Look behind me! It’s Mickey and his maker! I’m at DISNEYLAND!! I’ve wanted to go ever since I was a pup and I’m finally here at the Magic Kingdom! I’m so excited to be here! But before I go in and enjoy the sheer awesomeness, let me tell you a few things about this statue that’s also known as the Partners Statue. It was sculpted by the legendary Disney animator and imaginer Blaine Gibson.
Facts about the Partners Statue
It took Blaine a year to sculpt this piece and it was based on a bust of Walt he sculpted in the 1960s. The statue stands 6’5″ tall, while in reality Walt Disney was actually 5’10” tall. Blaine worked quite hard to figure out the pose of the statue. There were several versions, including one depicting Mickey holding an ice cream in his hand! The final version just shows Mickey and Walt holding hands and watching people happily come into the magical theme park. In fact, the plaque directly below the statue in Disneyland quotes Walt Disney as saying, “I think most of all what I want Disneyland to be is a happy place…where parents and children can have fun…together.” Since its unveiling on Disneyland’s Main Street in 1993, it has been replicated in other Disney parks, studios, and merchandising, and at the Disney Legends Plaza at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. Isn’t that something? Walt Disney has realised his dream of making people happy all over the world! And this statue stands testament to that wonderful vision of his.
Just being here makes me so happy! And now I’m off to experience the Magical Kingdom!
