Who is Siddharth Basu?
Siddharth Basu is an Indian television producer and director who is considered the father of Indian quiz shows. From his career as a documentary film maker for Indian TV in the late 1970’s to producing and directing the widely watched television show Kaun Banega Crorepati in 2000, Siddharth Basu has created television that has touched the emotional chords of millions of Indians for over 3 decades.
Birth Place and Education
Basu was born in Kolkata in 1954 and grew up in Mumbai, Delhi and Madras. He attended a string of schools in these cities before attending IIT Madras and then a masters in English Literature from Delhi University, he began his career as a documentary film maker and lending his voice to All India Radio hosting shows such as General Overseas Service and Yuva Vani.
Quiz Time Show
By the 1980’s Basu began Quiz Time, the first quiz show on public access television in India (Doordarshan) and quiz shows on the collegiate, corporate, and inter school circuits, which were not televised. In 1988 Siddharth Basu, along with his wife Anita Kaul started Big Synergy Media, a production house that has since produced big titles like Mastermind India, Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, India’s Child Genius and the most watched Indian TV show, Kaun Banega Crorepati.
