We’re not that different from monkeys!
Our closest living relatives are chimps! Research reveals that humans and chimpanzees have a genetic similarity of around 98.5%!
Oh relax, they’re not saying that we’re monkeys. The 1.5% chimp-human distinction, for example, involves a measurement of only substitutions in the base building blocks of those genes that chimpanzees and humans share. If all the differences were counted, there’s easily a distinction of at least 4 to 5% between the human and chimpanzee genomes.
Which only means we all came from the same place. That’s a relief right?
