1st Birthday

Party Ideas And Themes | 5-12 yrs | look and take, Interactive

Make his first one to remember

The excitement around your child’s 1st birthday can sometimes seem overwhelming. You want your little one to have a wonderful experience and although they may not completely understand what this occasion means you can do this by bringing together the people who have supported you through this roller coaster year. Apart from close friends and family you may wish to include tiny-tots that your 1 year old plays with, and of course their parents.

Location

  • The excitement around your child’s 1st birthday can sometimes seem overwhelming. You want your little one to have a wonderful experience and although they may not completely understand what this occasion means you can do this by bringing together the people who have supported you through this roller coaster year. Apart from close friends and family you may wish to include tiny-tots that your 1 year old plays with, and of course their parents.
  • Keep the party to a maximum of 2 hours and schedule the entire event beforehand by delegating different family members to be responsible for different aspects of the party so that you can also be part of the festivities.
  • Delegate chores and activities to be led by different people to eliminate chaos.

Invites

  • Make sure you send out invitations well before the day of the party.
  • The invitations can focus on the #1.
  • You can punch a hole in the top left corner of the card and attach a single candle with some string.
  • Alternatively you can use a recent photograph of the child with the caption “I’m turning 1!” or something similar underneath the photo with the details on the back.

Decor

  • Make (or buy) a banner saying “Happy 1st Birthday”
  • You can cut large #1’s out of chart paper and embellish them with sparkle and paste a number of them around the room.
  • Put together a slide show of the past year featuring your child and have it run continuously for anyone to stop and enjoy.

Activities

  • Quarden off a section of the room with bolsters or a play-pen and fill them with toys so that parents of the children can leave their children there while they grab a quick bite.
  • Have a parent take charge of each child and play ball-roll. This is where the parents sit in a circle with their children on their lap and have the child toss (roll) the ball to each other.
  • Play coin toss with chocolate coins covered in gold paper where they can keep the coins that they successfully throw into a bucket. If you’ve been documenting your child’s experiences via video you can make a short film of blooper moments. Make sure it’s no more than 10 mins.
  • Children are enchanted with bubbles and you could have a small activity where someone blows bubbles for the kids. Do this outside if you can so that you don’t get soap all over the place.
